About the Newspapers
A Major Historical Source
The Belgian Press from The Great War is a portal to Belgian newspapers and periodicals published between 1914 and 1918, the years of the First World War. They are preserved in seventeen major heritage institutions in Belgium and were digitized and made available online in three major projects. These press collections are an important historical source about life in Belgium during this major conflict.
The collections contain all sorts of press coverage: censored daily newspapers and regular weekly and monthly papers, illegal press, trench newspapers, prisoners of war press, refugee press, press for Belgian citizens abroad and the new generation of newspapers that started to be published at the end of the war. Their documents covers all aspects of life during an occupation or in a war zone in full breath and depth. This makes the collections extremely relevant even today.
